The fourth edition of the α7R, the Sony α7R IV features the world’s first 135mm full-frame, back-illuminated CMOS image sensor with 61MP. Sony’s BIONZ X image-processing engine offers approximately 1.5 times more resolution than its predecessor, producing realistic textures and details and minimizing noise. Image sensor output is processed in 16-bit form by the front-end LSI and the BIONZ X processor before being output as compressed or uncompressed 14-bit RAW files, even when shooting in silent or continuous mode.
61 MP Full-Frame Exmor R BSI CMOS Sensor and BIONZ X Image Processor & Front-End LSI
The revolutionary 135mm full-frame, back-illuminated CMOS sensor in the Sony α7R IV camera works to eliminate noise and deliver true-to-life imagery. With 61MP effective pixels, the back illuminated structure is highly sensitive, capturing accurate 4K video as well as still shots. The BIONZ X image-processing engine further maximizes sensor performance, which offers approximately 1.5x greater resolution than the α7R III. Processed in 16-bit form by the front-end LSI and BIONZ X, image sensor output is produced as compressed or uncompressed 14-bit RAW files — even when shooting in silent or continuous mode.
567-Point Phase-Detection AF System
The autofocus (AF) system in the Sony α7R IV features 567 phase-detection points in a high-density focal-plane, which covers approximately 99.7% of the vertical image area and 74% of the horizontal image area. In spite of the increased resolution in the Sony α7R IV, the tracking speed and accuracy has also been improved. Real-time AF employs advanced AI technology to identify and track a subject’s eyes or face — human or animal.
UHD 4K 30p Video with HLG & S-Log3 Gammas
Shooting high-quality 4K footage with the Sony α7R IV camera is easy with Touch Tracking. The Real-time Tracking function is enabled when you simply touch the subject to be tracked on the monitor. Color, brightness and depth are seamlessly processed at the specified sensitivity and speed. Achieve fast focus (AF-S) by pressing the AF ON button or half-pressing the shutter button while shooting. Maximize color grading flexibility with S-Log 2 and S-Log 3, the latter offering a total of 14-stops of dynamic range. To support an Instant HDR workflow, Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) is also available on the Sony α7R IV.
